CharmstoneThis smooth perforated pebble is from Ladykirk in Berwickshire. It is thought to have been used as a charm in the 19th century. It was probably strung on a string in a building or on a doorpost and used as a healing stone to ward off evil spirits. The hole in the pebble looks as if it has been created artificially.
