Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate illustrates and evening dress and a day dress. Is is dated 1878 and signed, 'Bonnard' and 'Anaïs Toudouze'. The evening dress has a train trimmed with gold tassels. The woman wearing it carries a fan, which were still popular throughout the late Victorian period. Adèle Anaïs Toudouze was the second daughter of Alexandre-Marie Colin (1798-1875), a painter and lithographer. Along with her sisters, Héloïse and Laure, she was responsible for some of the most charming fashion plates of the mid-nineteenth century.
