Textile fragmentThis textile fragment was found at Kildonan on Eigg in the Inner Hebrides in a man's grave. A number of fragments of cloth of various weaves, some lined with fur, were found in the grave, along with other valuable grave goods of Scandinavian character. The fragment is cloth with a raised pile, probably from a shaggy cloak. Textiles are highly perishable, and usually survive only as fragments. Their production was a simple one, often done in a home.
