Measure

This pewter measure dates from the 18th century. The measure has a 'waisted' body, a loop handle and no lid. It is engraved with the owner's initials 'T E'.

Pewter measure with a waisted body and a loop handle, lidless type, engraved with the owner's initials "T E", Scottish, 18th century

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
