Punch bowl
Add to album

This silver punch bowl was made by Milne and Campbell of Glasgow around 1767. It was presented to Robert Campbell of Dunie for his service in saving the ship 'Hector' when she was forced into Loch Sween in 1767.

The side of the bowl is inscribed, 'The owners of the ship Hector of Glasgow in testimony to Robt Campbell Esq of Dunie for his service in saving that ship...beg his acceptance of this piece of plate'.

In July 1773 the 'Hector' took one of the first group of Scottish emigrants to Nova Scotia. She sailed out of Loch Broom with 200 passengers who were convinced that Nova Scotia offered them a better life.
