Tazza of veined yellow marble
Add to album

A tazza is a shallow, ornamental cup, bowl or vase, usually with a pedestal. This two-handled marble example was made in Italy in the late 18th century.

The tazza is of veined yellow marble. The pedestal is of black marble. The underside and stem of the tazza are fluted.

In the 18th and 19th century, many Scots travelled abroad for pleasure and education. During this 'Grand Tour', Rome was the chief destination. This tazza was probably one of the souvenirs brought home by a tourist.
