This is the reverse of a silver medal of the University of Glasgow. The unawarded medal was made by James Tassie of Glasgow and is decorated with a glass paste cameo of John Anderson.
The reverse has a blank central panel for the recipient's name.
John Anderson became a professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow in 1760. He had radical views on education and left money in his will to endow what became Anderson's Institute, forerunner of the University of Strathclyde.
