BowlThis earthenware bowl was made in eastern Iran, probably Nishapur, in the 10th century. The bowl is painted with manganese-purple, yellow and green under a thin, colourless and transparent glaze. Two lateral human figures flank an array of cattle or horses and birds, all set against a yellow background. Around the outside of the bowl runs a crude band of diamond and leaf shapes. It has been suggested that this type of ware was made exclusively in Nishapur and was intended for the ruling classes. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
