This pewter communion flagon was made by William Hunter, a pewterer in Edinburgh. It dates from 1773.
The flagon is engraved with the inscription 'The Berean Assembly 1773'.
The Bereans were a small evangelical sect who had extreme views on equality before God and rejected the worldly nuances of the 18th-century church in Scotland. Later known as the Sandemannians, their church in Edinburgh's Barony Street is still standing.
