This wrought iron toaster, for toasting bread at an open fire, comes from Ceres in Fife. It dates from the 19th century.

The toaster has an adjustable 3-pronged fork.

In the late 19th and early 20th century there was a revival in the use of wrought iron for decorative architectural work. Wrought iron contains some slag and very little carbon. It is tough but easy to work or shape and is ideal for gates, balconies and railings.
