Sword, from Arbroath, AngusThis bronze sword was found near Arbroath in Angus. It dates from between 950 and 750 BC. The sword has a long blade designed for slashing. There is one rivet hole in each shoulder, two in the grip to secure an organic handle, and two, with the remains of rivets, at the join between the shoulder and grip. The point of the blade is broken. Technological advances in bronze casting in the late Bronze Age resulted in new and better weapons.
