This sword is mounted in the formal way for a sword worn at court slung from the belt. The scabbard is decorated with a family crest of three asarum leaves associated with the Tokugawa shogunate which ruled during the Edo period (1600-1868).

This sword has fine quality metal mounts encrusted with gold designs of 3 asarum leaves. The mounts are termed differently to a katana, the sword used every day. The chape of a tachi is called ishi-tsuki and the mount at the top of the hilt is kabuto gan.
