Add to albumColoured lithograph of 'An Episode from the Battle of Inkerman' by François Delarue. The Highlander is protecting a fallen Frenchman.
The Highland Brigade was not involved at the Battle of Inkerman but this illustration is a product of the French tendency to use the figure of the kilted Highland soldier as representing the British Army.
The Battle of Inkerman was a major battle of the Crimean War, taking place on 5 November 1854, between the Russians and the British and French. Thanks largely to the arrival of French reinforcements, the Russians suffered a heavy defeat in the dense fog.
