KnifeThis stone knife comes from the Links of Noltland in Orkney. It dates from between 3000 and 2500 BC. This is a flake struck from a large cobble, its sharp edges used as a simple knife. Knives of this type are called 'Skaill knives' after finds from Skaill in Orkney. These simple yet effective knives - the original 'throwaway tool' - could have been used in the initial preparation of meat and fish.
