Coin (Obverse), three pence piece, from reign of Charles IThis is the obverse of a silver pattern three pence piece minted in Edinburgh in 1631, during the reign of Charles I. The obverse bears a crown above two interlinked 'C's to each side of which is a lozenge. The Latin inscription translates as: 'Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland'. This coin is an example of a pattern for a proposed issue of three pence Scots tokens in copper. No coins were ever struck for circulation.
