This bone scoop from Jarlshof in Shetland dates from between 3000 and 2000 BC. It could have been used for scooping bone marrow from a bone.

The scoop was formed from a well-polished splinter. It has a long, narrow blade and well-defined neck, and is pierced through the head. The hole may indicated that the scoop was kept handy by being hung from a thread or thong.
