Pot and lid
This ceramic cooking pot and stone lid were found together in a cubicle within Midhowe Broch on Rousay in Orkney. They were used sometime between 0 and 400 AD.
The small dark pot has a well marked shoulder, with a rounded and slightly out-turned rim. It had been burnished on its outer surface. The pot lid is made from a thin slab of stone, roughly chipped into a circular shape.
Pots with lids could have been used for various purposes, including cooking and storage.
