Textile piece, woven patternThis textile has been woven with pre-resist dyed warp, longitudinal threads and weft or horizontal threads, to produce double kasuri seen in the chequered design. Single weft kasuri is used for the stylised figure of Daruma, a buddhist disciple. The textile is dyed indigo blue with the design reserved in white. The pattern is carefully worked out on graph paper and the bundles of yarn measured and bound tightly together at certain points to resist the dye. The design emerges as the cloth is woven.
