Network pouches made of faience beads, from royal burial

These two beadwork pouches are among the grave goods from the grave of a 17th Dynasty queen and her child at Qurneh in Egypt. They were found inside the queen's coffin, one below her head and the other draped from a headrest.

The pouches consist of numerous small blue faience beads threaded to make a network, with loop handles. One has a tassel at the bottom. They were each made to hold and suspend a pot or other container.

This grave, from the burial place of the kings and queens of Thebes, is remarkable as it dates from a time when Egypt was politically divided and relatively poor. The queen and her child have been lavishly equipped for the Afterlife.
