RecordPlate (2 of 2)made in Florence, Italy
Plate (2 of 2)This maiolica plate was made at the Cantagalli factory in Florence in Italy in 1891. The photograph shows the underside. The underside is painted in blue and black with a cockerel above the monogram 'AC'. The upper side of the plate has a flowering climbing plant, two putti, birds and leaves. It is inscribed with the initials 'MT' (probably for the member of the Tod family who commissioned the plate) and the date '1891'. The Cantagalli factory was one of the many factories that specialised in producing 16th-century imitations in the second half of the 19th century. The factory was founded by Ulisse and Giuseppe Cantagalli and is still in production today. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
