Ring, commemorating Charles II

This gold memorial ring of Charles II dates from the late 17th century.
Under the triangular, table-cut diamond is a miniature of Charles II. The back is engraved with the initials 'CR' for Carolus Rex (King Charles).
Many pieces of jewellery commemorate the later Stewart monarchs, particularly after the execution of Charles I in 1649. The pieces were worn by supporters of the Scottish dynasty and handed down through their families into the 18th century.
