This hand-coloured fashion plate is from the Illustrirte Frauen Zeitung, a fashion magazine published in Berlin. The plate illustrates two evening dresses and is dated 2 November, 1874.

The dress skirts are draped towards the back and trimmed with elaborate bouffants. The look is enhanced by long trains.

The Illustrirte Frauen Zeitung first appeared in 1874 and was widely circulated throughout Europe.
