Figure, of Lakshmi
Add to album

This seated figure in grey stone depicts the Hindu goddess Shri Lakshmi. Dating to the Vijinajagar Period of the 16th century, it comes from south India.

Shri Laksmi is shown here with her typical attribute, the lotus, held in both hands. Her lower right hand is extended in varadamudra, the gesture of boon-giving and granting wishes. The lower left hand is held up in vitarka-mudra, with thumb and index finger touching.

Shri Lakshmi is the consort of the Hindu god Vishnu. She is the goddess of wealth, abundance and good fortune.
