A javelin is a light spear which was thrown. This iron example was found at Merlsford in Fife. It was used in the 1st century AD.
The socketed javelin head is imperfect, broken at the end and corroded on the edges.
With the arrival of iron technology, tougher and more lethal weapons could be manufactured.
