Pistol (Detail)

This detail shows the barrel of a pistol made in 1618 by Robert Alison from Dundee.

The barrel is cast in brass with strapwork and foliage decoration. The stock is of brazil wood inlaid with a brass rose and thistle.

Dundee was an important centre for the manufacture of quality firearms in the late 16th and early 17th century.
