DrawingOne of a series of miniature paintings and drawings of varying provenance from an album probably compiled in 19th-century Persia. This image shows a young unbearded man, with a large white turban further highlighted by three black plumes in golden sockets. Richly clothed in a green garment enhanced by bejewelled gold ornaments and a red overcoat with eremin lining, he is seated on an elaborate platform throne and supported by a richly patterned bolster. An inscription written in cursive Arabic identifies the depicted person as: his Highness Sultan Ahmad Son of Sultan Mehmed. This particular miniature was executed in Turkey in the 17th century.
