Mould, for rectangular dish

This plaster of Paris block and case mould is for a shaped rectangular dish. It dates from the second half of the 19th century and was used at Belfield's Pottery at Prestonpans in East Lothian.

The mould has two loop handles and a leaf and acorn pattern in relief.

Belfield's Pottery was established by Charles Belfield in the mid-1830s. By the mid-19th century the pottery was employing between 20 and 40 people. The business remained a family concern and continued until the mid-20th century. Belfield's is best known for high quality earthenware, particularly its Rockingham teapots and coffee pots, maiolica ware and everyday kitchen ware.
