Snuffers are used to trim or cut off the charred end of a candle wick. These brass snuffers were made in the 19th century, probably on mainland Europe.
The scissors-type snuffers have a box into which the end of the wick is transferred when it is cut off. The top of the box is missing. The sides are ornamented with a geometric and floral design in low relief. A thistle is stamped on the underside of one of the blades.
