Spearhead
Add to album

This iron spearhead was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was part of the equipment of the auxiliary infantry, used between 80 and 180 AD.

The blade of the spearhead is damaged.

There were two classes of Roman soldiers: the elite legionary and the ordinary auxiliary, each with its own equipment. Every soldier, infantry and cavalry, was fully equipped. Military equipment was mass produced.
