Coin dies, for Queen Anne half-groatsThese iron and steel coin dies were used to make Queen Anne half-groats, worth twopence. The dies were made in Scotland in 1711. The die on the left is for the obverse of the coin. It bears the right profile of Queen Anne and a Latin inscription reading 'Anne.Dei.Gratia..E.'. The other die, for the reverse, has a crowned figure '2' (signifying twopence) and the date, 1711. There are no surviving contemporary half-groats struck from these dies.
