Pistol, made in 1678This pistol was made by Thomas Caddell (the First) in 1678. The butt of the pistol has iron scrolls and is signed on the lock-plate 'Thomas Caddell 1678'. The pistol has a late snaphance lock and is extensively decorated with inlaid plaques and bands of silver and engraving. A demand from Highlanders for pistols was met in the 17th and early 18th centuries by the town of Doune in Stirlingshire.
