Fashion plate, from La Revue de la Mode

This hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Revue de la Mode, a fashion magazine published in Paris. The plate illustrates outdoor wear for six children and is dated 26 August, 1911.

All of the outfits have matching hats. The sketches in the top right hand corner show the outfits when viewed from the back. The little girl second from the left is holding a metal hoop and rod, also known as a gird and cleek - a favourite game at this time.

La Revue de la Mode first appeared in 1872. It was one of the more notable fashion magazines brought out in the last quarter of the 19th century and continued in publication until 1888.
