Piece of a wooden gatewayThis piece of a wooden gateway was found at the site of the Roman fort of Oakwood in Selkirkshire. It is a rare survival of a wooden gateway from the Roman period. It was used between 80 and 105 AD. Gatepost timber from Oakwood, Selkirkshire The Romans valued wood highly. They had specialist carpenters, with their own workshops equipped with a wide variety of highly specialised tools.
