Incense spoon, associated with James VII (II of England)This silver incense spoon is one of the surviving pieces of the altar plate used in the Roman Catholic chapel of James VII (II of England) at the Abbey Church of Holyrood in Edinburgh. It dates from 1686-7. The spoon is engraved with an earl's coronet. During Mass, the spoon is used to ladle incense into a container known as a thurible.
