RecordKnife< 1 of 1 > Back From South Uist, Outer Hebrides
KnifeThis bone knife was found in a circular house on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides along with bone pins, a bone comb and a circular plate of bone. The knife was used sometime between 200 BC and 500 AD, perhaps for skinning. The flat, thin knife has a long handle, straight back, and pointed tip. For much of Scotland's history, people have made extensive use of bone and antler for many objects used in daily life, especially in the windswept Western and Northern Isles where wood and other materials were rare.
