Perforated cobble hammerstone
Add to album

This hammerstone was found at Glenluce in Wigtownshire. It could have been used for various purposes requiring hammering. Because of its simple shape, it is very hard to date.

This hammerstone has been made by drilling an irregularly-shaped shafthole from either side through an oval cobble. One end has heavy batter wear-marks, the other less so, but these show that it had been used as a hammerstone.
