TetherThis iron stake and ring tether was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used between 80 and 180 AD. The top of the stake is damaged. The Roman army was composed of infantry and cavalry, each with specialised equipment. The cavalry needed special weapons for use on horseback, as well as a range of equipment for their horses.
