Made in Edinburgh
This gold trophy cup was made in 1751 by Ker & Dempster of Edinburgh. Known as 'The King's Prize', it was presented for horse racing at Leith in Edinburgh. From the 1660s onwards, Leith races became the most important sporting event in Scotland.
Gold cup and cover, "The King's Plate Prize", Leith Races; made by Ker and Dempster, Edinburgh, c. 1751
