Spearhead
Add to album

This bronze spearhead was found at Eyre Point on island of Raasay in the Inner Hebrides. It dates from around 950 to 750 BC.

The long, leaf-shaped spearhead has a midrib running the length of the socket and blade. The socket has rivet holes for attaching it to a wooden shaft. Part of the tip and socket are missing.

Bronze-tipped spears were part of the equipment of the Late Bronze Age elite warrior. They are sometimes found in hoards, placed in inaccessible or watery areas, where they were probably ritual deposits.
