Add to album

This brass and aluminium telescope dates from around 1920. It was probably by the firm founded by Patrick Adie, a London-based scientific instrument maker, and fourth son of Edinburgh maker Alexander Adie. The firm was in business until 1942.

The five draw refracting telescope magnifies from 35 to 50 times. Engraved on the second draw tube is 'P. Adie/ Broadway Works/ Westminster'. The telescope has leather end-caps and a leather strap.

The lightweight aluminium used in this telescope was a recently-introduced innovation.
