Measure

This pewter measure for an Imperial half gill was made around 1826, possibly in Edinburgh.

The baluster measure has a flat lid and an 'embryo shell' thumb-piece. It is stamped '2 GLASS' on the lid exterior.

Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
