Gallon measure

This bronze gallon measure, dated 1826, is part of a set of weights and measures used in the burgh of Dunbar in East Lothian.

The measure is inscribed 'Royal Burgh of Dunbar, County of Haddington, 1826'.

To ensure fair trade, burghs each kept a set of standard weights and measures against which those in commercial use could be checked.
