Brooch

This double heart-shaped silver brooch dates from the late 18th century.

Double heart brooch of silver, the front lightly engraved with short lines and three stars, and with I R, I M B and D P inscribed on the back, by Alexander Stewart, Inverness

The brooch is similar in design to the heart-shaped brooches worn by native Americans. Such brooches were used as one of the many bartered goods in the fur trade.
