Model, of petrol launch ElmaThis wooden model, built to a scale of 1:16, represents the petrol launch 'Elma', a vessel used for harbour and sea-going service by the police and customs officials in the early 20th century. The original launch was designed by J I Thornycroft & Co Ltd in 1905. The model was built to a scale of 1:16 by Mr J D P Munro of Edinburgh. 'Elma's' hull was constructed of galvanised steel. She was fully decked with a cabin situated aft and crew accommodation forward. She could be steered from either the wheel-house or the deck - steering wheels and the engine-room telegraph were duplicated in both.
