RecordSpearhead< 1 of 1 > Back from Glen Tanar, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire
SpearheadThis bronze spearhead was found at Glen Tanar near Aboyne in Aberdeenshire. It was probably used as a throwing spear, or javelin, sometime between 1500 and 1150 BC. The short spearhead has projecting loops on its long socket. The blade appears to be very worn and much reworked during its use. It was probably originally a leaf-shaped blade. Spears were used both for fighting and for hunting. Some were designed to be thrusting weapons, while other lighter examples were designed to be thrown, as this example.
