RecordBracelets< 1 of 1 > Back from St Andrews, Fife
BraceletsThese bronze bracelets were found in 1990 in a hoard of late Bronze Age material at St Andrews in Fife. The hoard contained over 200 tools, weapons and ornaments as well as seven amber beads and three cannel coal bangles. It was buried between 950 and 750 BC. The six penannular bracelets include examples with terminals evenly expanded or outwards turning. The hoard contained 22 complete penannular bracelets and fragments of many others. During the Later Bronze Age, there seems to have been a fashion for penannular bracelets in gold and bronze throughout north-western Europe. Most of the varieties known from Scotland are represented in the St Andrews hoard, ranging from plain forms to examples with terminals turned outwards.
