StatuetteThis is one of 82 wooden statuettes carved from Scottish oak and depicting the dress of Scottish regiments between 1633 and 1918. The statuettes were designed by Charles d'O. Pilkington Jackson and date from between 1930 and 1933. This one depicts the dress of a private of the grenadier company of the 3rd Foot Guards in 1751. The statuettes were produced for the opening of the Scottish United Services Museum in 1933. Made at a time when the names of these regiments were familiar to every Scot, the figures represent the military influence in Scotland at its highest point.
