JardiniereA jardiniere is an ornamental pot or trough for plants. This glazed earthenware example was made at Belfield's Pottery at Prestonpans in East Lothian. It dates from the late 19th century. One of three die-struck medallions linked by a chain presented to Fletcher Norton Menzies - Henley Regatta Grand Challenge Cup Prize Medal Belfield's Pottery was established by Charles Belfield in the mid-1830s. By the mid-19th century the pottery was employing between 20 and 40 people. The business remained a family concern and continued until the mid-20th century. Belfield's is best known for high quality earthenware, particularly its Rockingham teapots and coffee pots, maiolica ware and everyday kitchen ware.
