Medallion, with portrait of Sir William Forbes

This framed portrait medallion of William Forbes (c. 1671-1745) was made in England in 1791 by J. Tassie. Forbes was the first Regius Professor of Law at the University of Glasgow. The portrait is made of opaque white glass.

Framed portrait medallion of Sir William Forbes, Bart., in profile facing right, in opaque white glass: English, signed and dated 1791, modelled by J. Tassie

Forbes produced a number of texts and his 'Institutes of the Law of Scotland', published in 1722, was a student textbook. His magnum opus, 'The Great Body of the Law of Scotland', was not published, possibly because of its great length.
