Jug

This earthenware jug was found in the River Forth at Gargunnock in Stirlingshire and dates from the 17th century. The jug was produced at Throsk near Stirling.

The jug has a series of grooves around the neck.

Large quantities of earthenware vessels were produced at Throsk in the 17th century, especially large jugs, which may have been used for transporting ale and beer. Throsk earthenware was not of high quality but it was in demand throughout Scotland.
